Happy Birthday Will Rogers and Will Rogers Days In Claremore

Well, tomorrow is Oklahoma's favorite son's birthday.
William "Will" Penn Adair Rogers was born November 4, 1879 on Dog Iron Ranch near Oologah, OK.  His parents were Clement Vann Rogers and Mary America Schrimsher.  (Mary had a sister named Alabama).
If you are like me then you already know alot about Will Rogers so I will just provide some links at the end of the post for your reading pleasure.
In celebration of his birthday today kicks off the first day of Will Rogers Days.  This is a three day event beginning with children's day at the museum in Claremore, a birthday party tomorrow at Rogers' birthplace in Oologah, a car show and parade.  For more information go to the Will Rogers Memorial Museums.  The museum site is very informative with quotes, writings, filmography, etc.  Also, you can get information about the Will Rogers "In School" program.
If you haven't visited the Will Rogers Memorial Museums and birthplace then put it on your "living list".  It's on mine.

Happy birthday Will, we love you.

Okay now I'm all weepy and can't type... This is my hometown!! Will Roger's Birthplace is where I grew up. A creek flows thru my granpa's property named for one of the freed slaves that his father had owned. there is a small cemetary just over the fence for the little settlement of freed slaves. Many people think the county is named after Will but it's actually named after his father.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people miss quote him... that one about the weather.

My daughter recently told me about a book she had read that about Will Rogers that had to with family history. I can't remember the name of it.

OMG!!! I've walked in the Parade too. I just remembered that!! To us in Rogers County it's the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade!!
