Sonic Drive In Founder, Troy Smith Died

Sonic founder, Troy Smith died at the age of 87. The memorial service will be at 2:00 pm, Friday at the First Christian Church in Edmond, OK.
I never met Troy Smith, but my step dad knew him and from what I understand he was a giving man. He was loved by many. How could you not love a man who came up with Sonic, America's Drive-In.
When a new Sonic opened in Shawnee it was number 3,000 and something. I told my step dad about it and he said, "oh, yeah they're up to 3,000 and something, then he said I had #3 and #13, WHAT?
I love to hear the stories about Sonic. Friends got together to help expand Sonic restaurants to every little town in Oklahoma and beyond. Thankfully they did and we had a place to turn around when we dragged Main. In some towns it was the only place with the lights still on after 7:00 pm.
One time in when I was in high school. A guy I went to school with put on a motorcycle helmet and ordered a ton of food then when the car hop brought the food out he grabbed the tray and ran. I think he was in just his underwear but that story maybe exaggerated over the years.
My kids have never been to McDonald's but they've been to Sonic. They both have to have a Sonic root beer every time we go.
Anyway you can read more about Troy Smith at the links I have below. He was a very interesting man. No doubt he is discussed in business schools across America. He came from such humble beginnings to become the Sonic man. Also, I have a link to the Troy & Dollie Smith Wellness Center at Integris, what a giving man.

Thanks Mr. Smith for giving us a place to go while we were high school. We love you.

When They Were Young

This is John & Pearl Barham when they were young. I think it was their engagement or wedding photo. The picture is in a frame and sits on a table in my grandma's house. I took a photo of the photo. I think it turned out okay.
Have a great day.

Old Family Photos

I have a new cousin in California. He found this blog by searching the Internet for old family names. He has been sending me old family photos that I'll share with you from time to time. Below are my great grandparents, John Jackson Barham and Nancy Pearl Emily Dunn Barham. It was their last formal portrait and everyone in the family should have a copy of it, but this one is unique to all the others.

On the back of this photo is my great grandma's handwriting. This will make my mom cry.
Have a great day.

Death & Birth Notices - Oklahoma Style

As you know I live in the middle of Creek Nation in Oklahoma. That is Creek Indian. I used to live in the Sac & Fox Nation. I'm not far from the Choctaw Nation, Shawnee, Pottatomi and Seminole Nations. I am far from the Osage, Ponatoc, Pawnee, Ponca, Miami, Iowa, Delaware and Cherokee Nations. I'm going somewhere with this.
When reading an announcement regarding an Indian in Oklahoma newspapers you find out some interesting facts. An obituary will not only list the tribal name that a person was born into, but also the clan, such as Bear, Turtle or Eagle. It will also list the person's true Indian name. In the obit it is phrased, "her Indian name was _______".
This is true for birth notices too and if both parents are Indian it makes for a very long birth announcement. I love to read about which clans the new little person belongs.
Oh, did I tell my husband speaks Creek. He was the only white kid in his elementary school class.
Have a great day,

I'm Back!!!!!

I'm back online. Yesterday, UPS delivered a new Toshiba laptop from Best Buy. I love it.
I've missed blogging and visiting everyone's sites. It will take me a few days to catch up with everyone. Also, I need to recover from helping my husband split wood yesterday, but a little soreness is worth it. When the first cold snap hits I will just have to reach out my front door for firewood. My house is very cozy in the wintertime.
Also, my sewing business is off and running. I'll be delivering a new Lamb Chop costume to a precious one year old girl this week. Hopefully, her mom will let me post a photo of her in her Halloween costume.
Have a great day. Love, Territory Mom
