Territory Mom
P.S. My grandma told me that when she was a little girl her mother told her, "that if anyone asks at school you tell them you are Cherokee". This was in the 1920's and 30's and she knew by the color of her daughter's skin someone would ask.

I hadn't heard that Mankiller had passed away. Sorry to hear that. She was certainly a dynamic person.
I wondered what county when you mentioned the North Canadian. We are down here on the South Canadian.
My mother was born at Mason. We used to tease her, saying she was from Last Chance, not Mason.
At one time, I had several relatives at Okemah. Sadly, all have passed away except for one cousin and he now lives in Illinois.
I have spent many summers north of Okemah.
